Real women want to read about other real women and that is why many of today’s magazines are now featuring plus size women in magazines that once only had super thin models gracing the covers and the inside pages. Publishers and marketing agencies have decided that it is a good idea to start catering to real women.
The average size woman is somewhere between a size 12-14 to a 18-20 yet ten or 15 years ago she was a size 6-8 and there were very few representations of ‘real women’ or plus size models. The most famous plus size model until recently was Emme, a beautiful, full-figured blond that seemed to be the only model for plus sizes. There are many more plus size models on the cover of magazines and strolling down the catwalk at fashion shows today.
Many of the latest stars are larger women, in both music and acting such as Queen Latifah, Kimberly Locke, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and the newest plus size actress, Gabourey Sidibe from the Oscar winning movie Precious.
Many women, who are sexy and curvy want to see the same on their magazines and read about what these women think, eat and do, women they can relate to, not the skinny women that are all too often featured talking about things that plus size girls simply do not relate to.
Many women in the plus size range would like to hear from others who look like them on topics ranging from sex, dating and healthy eating but most magazines have these topics covered by the thin women who grace their covers. There is a movement that is changing the magazines to feature more ‘real women’, women of size and women with curves.
Plus size women in magazines help real women understand that they are not alone and that their bodies are just as beautiful and desirable as a thinner woman’s.
When you are overweight, who said you can’t still be stylish? There is plus size clothing with plus size coupons that look just as stylish as any other size. Now, get back in the fashion world and be yourself!
