His And Hers Wedding Rings: Important Facts To Know

Wearing metal bands or metal rings on the fourth digit finger of the left hand, and sometimes on the right hand, symbolises the marital status of the ring wearer as being married. The practise, though now has widely spread across different cultures the world over, is believed to have originated from Europe.

Traditionally as people get into some form of relationships, they typically exchage gifts. In particular when people get married they exchange wedding rings and in most cases this would have been preceeded by exchange of engagement ring gifts.

Gold rings were historically worn by the bride groom, while their brides go with silver rings. This has changed in contemporary times though. Brides also now wear gold rings and will sensibly see to it that the wedding ring metal is not in contrast with the engagement ring metal. Clearly a mixture of metal is not very attractive.

The type of ring exchanged or worn symbolically indicate the stage or aspiration for the relationship. Pre-engagement rings often denote the start of serious courting, while the triology ring, representing the past, present and the future is indicative of commitment to lasting matrimony. The eternity ring, of course, is a declaration of life together forever.

The platinum metal would probably go for being the most precious metal for wedding rings. It is so beautiful it requires no further plating. It is quite durable but does not come cheap and may not be easily adjusted to changed finger size in the future. The palladium is very similar to the platinum in properties and is not as expensive. The titanium, if required, could be in-laid with platinum or gold. In contrast to the platinum or the gold, the titanium cannot be altered to fit changing finger size in the future.

The yellow gold is undoubtedly the most popular of all wedding ring metals. The white gold is as well rapidly gaining in popularity. Both of these are durable and, are capable of being easily altered to fit varying finger size in later life. The yellow gold rings come in different carats and it is advisable not to mix the 9 carat gold with the 18 carat gold as they will look noticeably different with time. In order to enhance the whiteness of the white gold, they are usually rhodium plated, and this will last up to two years before a re-plating will be required.
