Homeowners sometimes find that the longer they live somewhere the more stuff they seem to accumulate. Problem with that is generally they end up not having enough space to put everything, they out grow their homes. But before you think of moving to a larger place, you might want to consider one of the many DIY metal buildings there are available.
You probably think that this would be far too difficult to do on your own, but if you get one that is not too big, there should be no reason why you could not go a head and put the building together yourself. Of course it is in your best interest if you recruit some family and or friends to help you construct it.
Items you will need to accomplish project will be equipment that can lift heavy objects, level or level rod, transit, plumb bob, and of course some carpentry tools. You will also need to prepare the area that you will be erecting the building at. Clear it from debris and prepare it for concrete. Make sure to closely follow the instructions on how to mix and pour concrete that comes with the concrete before you attempt to pour it.
Pour the concrete into the area of the future steel buildings that you have set for the floor and building. After it is poured you can then put in the anchor bolts. Then make sure that you check the levelness of the concrete and level any areas that need it.
Next you will erect the DIY future steel buildings columns and make sure you tighten them with the girts. Also make sure that tighten the anchor bolts. You will also need to set up some sort of temporary support to help keep the columns secure.
Go ahead from here and attach the girts, eave struts and purlins. It is important that you check how level these are by either using a transit or plumb bob, make sure everything is level vertically as well as horizontal. Now you will tighten all the anchor bolts and the bolts that are called connecting bolts.
Take the components for the end building and finger bolt the pieces together. After this is done you will need to hoist these into position with the primary building.
Attach the load bracing rods both horizontally and vertically. It is important that you attach these to the columns with bolts, washers and nuts all of which should come with your building kit. Erect the rest of struts, purlins and girts. Loosely fasten these for now with their fasteners. Once a gain plumb and level everything again and adjust anything that you might need to level out more.
The final thing to do is to attach the metal walls and roof. Make sure that they overlap the ribs on the outside of the building. Use mastic tape or continuous tape sealer for water proofing. Tighten everything that needs to be tightened. You can add insulation if you like and also flashings and gutters to the building to help drain off rain.
